Details:The tiny area of Rueda, in western Spain, produces a mixture of unknown and unusual grape varieties. The grape responsible for the white of the area is Verdejo, which give a fresh, fruity, clean flavour with a hint of flinty nut in the aftertaste. Great with fish and hard cheeses, this unknown white is now attracting a serious market. Well recommended for that anytime glass, or if you'd prefer to eat, try it with white meats.

Details:The small area of Rueda, nestles between Ribeiro del Duero, Toro and Portugal. This area is subject to long periods of intense sunshine, which allows the indigenous grape varieties to flourish. Here the local grape, the Prieto Picudo, contributes a massive fruity flavour, and then it is blended with a little Tempranillo, to add the vinosity and the alcohol. Superb for that glass of nice red, or can be drunk with blue cheeses.

Details:The finest of the Toro wines is Crianza. This range from Montetoro uses the Tempranillo grape, and after fermentation when the colour of the wine is very intense, it is oak aged in American oak for 12 to 14 months. Like Rioja, this gives the wine a fuller richer flavour with a soft fruity oak driven taste. Perfect for accompanying dark meats and strong cheeses, and normally reaches 14.5% ABV
